Project Location: Abuja, Nogeria
Application: Internal roads, pedestrian paths, entrances and shared outdoor areas
Installations: Approximately 6,000 units
Lighting Solution: PBOX X4S integrated solar street light
Large university campuses depend on outdoor routes and shared spaces that remain usable after dark. Across multiple institutions in Abuja, the program called for consistent lighting on internal roads, pedestrian paths, entrances and public areas. PBOX X4S was selected to extend coverage while limiting the civil works and grid extensions associated with conventional lighting infrastructure.

The project team needed to balance three priorities: broad coverage across dispersed locations, limited dependence on conventional electrical infrastructure and consistent execution across a high-volume rollout.
Lighting points were spread across multiple campuses rather than concentrated at a single site.
Conventional expansion can require extensive trenching, cabling and grid connections.
A high-volume rollout required consistent planning and coordination across different locations.
The PBOX X4S integrates solar power generation, energy storage and lighting into a standalone system, creating a repeatable platform for large-scale deployment across multiple campus locations. By generating and managing energy at each light point, the solution supports standalone operation and provides a consistent platform for deployment across multiple campuses.
Each unit generates and stores solar energy locally, reducing the need to extend conventional power lines to every lighting point.
Combining key components in one integrated system simplifies site planning and field installation.
A unified platform helps project teams apply a consistent solution across different campuses and installation zones.
X4S can be positioned along internal roads, pedestrian paths, entrances and shared outdoor spaces according to local site conditions.

The completed deployment broadened outdoor lighting coverage across the participating universities. Illuminated roads, pedestrian routes and shared areas support clearer navigation after dark and help campuses make better use of outdoor spaces during evening hours.
Broader nighttime coverage
Illuminated routes and shared spaces support clearer navigation and greater use after dark.
Lower infrastructure dependence
Standalone light points limit the need for long cable runs and new grid connections.
Less on-site complexity
Integrated systems reduce the number of separate components installed and connected in the field.
Renewable-energy infrastructure
Solar lighting addresses a practical campus need while using locally generated renewable energy.
The Abuja program demonstrates how integrated solar lighting can support large-scale, distributed outdoor lighting across multiple university campuses. With approximately 6,000 X4S units deployed across different campus environments, the project shows how a standardized standalone lighting solution can be applied consistently across roads, pedestrian paths, entrances and shared outdoor areas.
Beyond the individual installations, the project provides a practical reference for large environments where lighting points are distributed across multiple locations and extending conventional power infrastructure may add complexity. The same approach can be considered for campuses, communities, public roads and other infrastructure projects where standalone lighting, flexible deployment and consistent implementation are priorities.
